O QUE FOI APRESENTADO

Finalidade da operação

The main result of the project is a novel, cost-effective, scalable, and transformative platform that provides music data and recommendations to music venues and retail/hospitality businesses. This information will allow optimisation of the music being played and boost the competitivity of the end-users: 1) The main benefits for music venues will include music insights such as charts but also music recommendations and targeting for brand partnerships and advertising towards a matching audience based on the music played. 2) The main advantages for hospitality and retail venues will be playlists recommendations, and, when relevant due to its size or market target, music and targeting recommendations (for big chains, shopping centers, or exclusive brands). Although the owners of a license have an obligation to report their music usage, they typically pay a flat-rate and have no incentive in reporting the exact information if any, which leads to many discrepancies and many creators, mainly small artists, do not receive their due amount. Auditio will culminate the incentivisation strategy to motivate outlets to correctly report the music they use to get better recommendations, through installation of music monitoring devices, which will also benefit the creators. The second most important result is the development of a reliable, trustworthy, music royalties' distribution pipeline. Collective Management Organisations (CMO) distribute the royalties collected from music licensing to the creators. In some cases (physical sales, streaming) the process is relatively straightforward since there is a picture of the actual use of music. In other cases, such as music used in retail or in music venues, since there is no data regarding the actual usage, creators get paid based on inaccurate proxies like their popularity or chart ranking in radio broadcasts, not whose music is actually being played. There are some commercial products on the market to monitor and identify the music in such outlets, that recognise commercially released recording by using audio-fingerprinting technologies. But they are not reliable for the more demanding use cases such as live music and DJ sets, where the comparison is not between identical recordings but consists in attributing the original work to a modified version. There are also scalability challenges, in music venues but even more so in the hospitality and retail sector, due to the huge number of tiny outlets. Auditio will propose optimized customized music recording solutions, improved audio-fingerprinting technology, and enhanced reporting processes, that will allow the CMO to share the royalties in a fairer while costefficient manner, contributing to the sustainability of the music sector. The main by-product of the project is the increase in compliance of the small businesses regarding music licensing. Currently, up to 78% of small businesses in the US are exposed to fines because of their misuse of personal music streaming accounts. This represents a loss of 1.38B$ in the US only. By providing an incentive to contract a license, Auditio will increase the compliance of small businesses to the music licensing rules and increase the amount of royalties collected by CMO, increasing the income of many musicians.
