O QUE FOI APRESENTADO

Finalidade da operação

SHADE's overarching mission is to promote culturally sensitive design thinking and deepen the understanding of architectural practices and education by integrating sensory considerations. This contributes to the broader architectural knowledge providing a strong foundation, fostering critical thinking, promoting cultural awareness, encouraging inclusivity, and emphasizing ethical and sustainable design practices. SHADE goals are: • to establish a new reference framework for creating inclusive and sustainable built environments that prioritize human needs by aligning with the experiences and expectations of those impacted by the design. In doing so, SHADE emphasizes a proactive and transformative mindset within the field of architectural design, exerting a positive influence on architectural discourse to foster a more inclusive learning environment. This influence extends beyond the field of architecture, reaching into broader society. • to reshape architectural design education. By promoting advancements in architectural design studios and integrating non-visual sensory modalities into the architectural design process, SHADE envisions architectural education not only to equip students with knowledge and skills but also as a pivotal force in cultivating well-rounded, skilled professionals. These professionals can contribute to the built environment ethically and sustainably, with a profound understanding of the cultural and social contexts in which they operate. • to understand the unique needs and challenges arising from reduced or absent vision. To achieve this, SHADE emphasizes the necessity to "learn to see" space differently in situations where visual aspects are not the primary means of perception. In doing so, SHADE emphasizes the need to develop an exploratory learning process. This considers conducting co-creation workshops with BP and a collaborative design studio scenario involving architectural students. This method promotes practical problem-solving, and engagement with various stakeholders to enhance the overall quality and inclusiveness of architectural design solutions. • to formulate the design of inclusive, comfortable, and sustainable sun shelters to enhance the accessibility of green and blue spaces for Blind People (BP), contributing to their overall well-being. These design cases serve as intentional tasks designed to prompt thoughtful reflection and contribute to the construction of knowledge. This construction occurs through active engagement in design practices, integrating both theoretical/explicit and empirical/tacit knowledge. SHADE exploratory learning process is rooted in three interconnected assumptions: the lack of exchange of theoretical knowledge between architectural design, spatial perception, and visual impairments; the need for specialized methods to analyze perception and understanding of space when vision is restricted; and the necessity to develop specific investigation tools to obtain firsthand information from BPSP, aligning it with theoretical knowledge to support the results obtained throughout the design cases.
