O QUE FOI APRESENTADO
Finalidade da operação
The consortium is intent on increasing the volume of wood and wood-based materials and products in all categories of buildings in substitution with high carbon substitution factors. For the purpose of the project, it serves the Renovation Wave Strategy of the European Panel Federation, whose details are given below. According to European Panel Federation’s Renovation Wave Strategy: ‘’ The building sector in Europe and is responsible for about 40% of the EU’s total energy consumption and more than one third of the EU’s emissions. But only 1% of buildings undergo energy efficient renovation every year, so effective action is crucial to making Europe climate-neutral by 2050. Currently, roughly 75% of the building stock is energy inefficient, yet almost 85-95% For the purpose of the project,…

Currently, roughly 75% of the building stock is energy inefficient, yet almost 85-95% For the purpose of the project, it serves the Renewal Wave Strategy of the European Panel Federation, whose details are given below. of today’s buildings will still be in use in 2050. Renovation of both public and private buildings is an essential measure in this context, and has been singled out in the European Green Deal as a key initiative to drive energy efficiency in the sector and deliver on objectives. The renovation wave initiative will build on the requirement for each EU country to publish a long-term building renovation strategy (LTRS), other aspects of the amending Directive on the Energy Performance of Buildings ((EU) 2018/844), and building-related aspects of each EU country’s national energy and climate plans (NECPs).’’ The project also stands for the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the objectives of the European Green Deal and the coming new EU Forest Strategy by promoting, number 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, number 13: Climate Action, and number 15: Life on Land. The TRL level of the project starts with TRL2 and is planned to arrive at TRL7 based on the Expected outcomes are planned as: 1. New bio-based resins for wood-based panel and construction industry; Bio-based resin formulation will be developed at TRL3-4 level for the production of environmentally friendly, formaldehyde-free wood-based composite panels 2. New sustainable wood-based panel products for buildings: new products for construction industry will be developed at TRL 3-4 level 3. Novel sustainable light panels from annual based agro-fibers: new panel formulations will be designed and developed at TRL 3-4 level 4. And all will be tested at real life environment at TRL6-7 The objectives of MoreWood are parallel with Kastamonu Entegre’s R&D strategy, which is: • Minimising formaldehyde emissions of conventional products • Commercialising bio-based products instead of petrol-based ones • Developing functional surfaces • Spreading the use of wood-based panels in construction industry The innovative aspect of the MoreWood project is that tannin resin will be used as a binder in the insulation panels to be produced and tannin foam will be used as a core layer in the structural insulation panels. Thus, it is aimed to obtain more environmentally friendly products than their counterparts.
