24778, Chão Bom, 1964-1972 – Papéis da Prisão, correspondência íntima, desenhos e arquivo digital

• To publish the prison correspondence between Luandino Vieira and Ermelinda Graça, as an in-depth contribution to the studies on prison writing and to the study of liberation movements in the Portuguese colonies. Org.: team in coll. with the author. (A1). • As a contribution to the goal of the digital transformation of Portuguese society, to design a digital edition to preserve and make available the prison correspondence in open access. Org.: team with Sistemas do Futuro and a designer. (A2) • To produce the book Desenhos da prisão (1962-1971), by José Luandino Vieira, and a digital gallery (part of "Acervo Digital") of Luandino Vieira's prison drawings in partnership with private institution. (A3) • To achieve these objectives, the project proposes three interconnected actions: Action 1 –Publication of Papéis da Prisão - Correspondência de Luandino e Linda (1962-1971) The team is familiar with the collection because of the work leading to the publication of Papéis da Prisão. The collection of correspondence consists of more than 4000 pages in fragile paper. Other types of material will also have to be dealt with: postcards, drawings, clippings. Implementation: treatment of the archive: classification, dating and reading; scanning and critical reading; selection of materials and digitisation; archive search; preparation of contents: fixation of text; explanatory notes; interview with the author’s son (to be the afterword of the book); introduction by the editors; production and publication; public presentation, dissemination and sustainability. Action 2 – Acervo Digital Papéis da Prisão The digital platform has two main aspects: to ensure the preservation of the very precarious material in question and to allow access to the visual components of the correspondence, where numerous censorship marks are visible; and to give access to the materiality of a unique collection. The archive built up in the course of the publication of Papéis da Prisão, 2015 (luandino.ces.uc.pt/index.php?id=15789&id_lingua=1&pag=15790) will be added to this digital archive. Action to be developed by the team, with Sistemas do Futuro and the designer. Other material resulting from archival research may be included. Implementation: processing of digitised material for electronic use; selection of other materials, resulting from research in the writer’s archive, but also in public and private archives; platform design; preparation of content; production of the platform; public presentation and availability to the public; sustainability. Action 3 – Production and publication of the book Desenhos da prisão and of Galeria Digital as part of the platform Acervo Digital Papéis da Prisão Desenhos da prisão are a significant collection of 30-40 drawings made during imprisonment. Paper, colours (3), conservation conditions of such precarious material need to be analysed. Implementation: team research; definition of format, alignment, and structure of the publication and the digital gallery. Pre-production of publication: selection, digitisation and photographing of material; critical texts for presentation; design of the book and digital gallery; post-production: editing, design of the platform; graphics and file integration. Dissemination. The three actions are interconnected, and various tasks of action 1 feed actions 2 and 3, as can be seen in the detailed description of tasks.
