O QUE FOI APRESENTADO

Finalidade da operação

The present proposal establishes groundbreaking hypotheses and innovative ideas that will ultimately contribute to addressing the challenges associated with the increasing aging of the global population. The PREDICT2TREAT aims to obtain several insights, both of the host and the respective commensal microbial populations, which could be used to improve routine clinical practice. In line with this, the following objectives are planned: 1) Profiling of the genetic variants of genes encoding for purinergic receptors, which are known as being involved in the modulation of inflammatory responses and responsible for the control of damages, in two age groups, elderly (>65 years old) and young adults (18-40 years old); 2) Identification of the microbiota and mycobiota associated with the selected…

In line with this, the following objectives are planned: 1) Profiling of the genetic variants of genes encoding for purinergic receptors, which are known as being involved in the modulation of inflammatory responses and responsible for the control of damages, in two age groups, elderly (>65 years old) and young adults (18-40 years old); 2) Identification of the microbiota and mycobiota associated with the selected elderly vs young adults’ groups of individuals, to identify major groups, genera or species, relevant to wellbeing and healthy ageing; 3) To study phenotypes and genotypes of C. albicans strains isolated as gut colonizers in the studied population, to construct a scale of virulence, highlighting strains that may be contributing to health and that can be used as new probiotics; 4) To establish a correlation model using the data collected throughout the study, with the main and final goal of calculating a risk score to be used in Precision Medicine to, ultimately, increase the elderly healthspan and wellbeing.
