O QUE FOI APRESENTADO

Finalidade da operação

At a research level, COMPATi aims to answer two main research questions to be considered in a RCT with male prison inmates: 1) Is the PSYCHOPATHY.COMP more effective than TAU in reducing psychopathy? i.e., test the efficacy of the PSYCHOPATHY.COMP on reducing psychopathy across time (primary outcome) 2) Is the PSYCHOPATHY.COMP more effective than TAU in in promoting emotional and behavioral regulation? i.e., test the efficacy of the PSYCHOPATHY.COMP on promoting emotional/behavioral regulation across time (secondary outcomes) Additionally, COMPATi aims to explore: - The potential mediating effect of compassion-related variables on the efficacy of the PSYCHOPATHY.COMP, i.e., explore whether the promotion of a compassionate motivation has a significant mediating effect on the changeability…

At a research level, COMPATi aims to answer two main research questions to be considered in a RCT with male prison inmates: 1) Is the PSYCHOPATHY.COMP more effective than TAU in reducing psychopathy? i.e., test the efficacy of the PSYCHOPATHY.COMP on reducing psychopathy across time (primary outcome) 2) Is the PSYCHOPATHY.COMP more effective than TAU in in promoting emotional and behavioral regulation? i.e., test the efficacy of the PSYCHOPATHY.COMP on promoting emotional/behavioral regulation across time (secondary outcomes) Additionally, COMPATi aims to explore: - The potential mediating effect of compassion-related variables on the efficacy of the PSYCHOPATHY.COMP, i.e., explore whether the promotion of a compassionate motivation has a significant mediating effect on the changeability of psychopathy. - The potential moderator effect of personality pathology in the efficacy of the PSYCHOPATHY.COMP, i.e., explore whether the severity of personality pathology impacts on the efficacy of the program. Besides these research aims, which contribute to the scientific knowledge on the efficacy of the PSYCHOPATHY.COMP among prison inmates, COMPATi also aims to impact at clinical/societal levels, not only locally (EREI) and nationally (ENEI), but also internationally. Specifically, by making available evidence-based interventions to this at/high-risk population and by training/supervising psychologists from the General Directorate for Reinsertion and Prison Services (DGRSP) on the delivery of the PSYCHOPATHY.COMP program, COMPATi is aligned with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of Agenda 2030: - Goal 3 – Good health and well-being Goal 3.4: By 2030, reduce by one third premature mortality from non-communicable diseases through prevention and treatment and promote mental health and well-being. - Goal 16 – Peace, justice, and strong institutions Goal 16.1: Significantly reduce all forms of violence and related death rates everywhere. Positive outcomes of this project will contribute to the rehabilitation of prison inmates with Antisocial Personality Disorder and psychopathy, which present the most severe and stable forms of antisocial behavior and several intervention needs, by: 1) Reducing their mental health needs - as the PSYCHOPATHY.COMP program aims to reduce both antisocial behavior and psychopathy through the promotion of a compassionate motivation. 2) Supporting the delivery of evidence-based interventions to these individuals - this will be the first study on the efficacy on an intervention program tailored to reduce antisocial behavior and psychopathy among male prison inmates; this will also be the first (both nationally and internationally) Randomized Controlled Trial conducted with prison inmates with Antisocial Personality Disorder and psychopathy. 3) Revolutionizing the way researchers, clinicians, policymakers, and stakeholders look at prison sentences; a unique opportunity to provide to these often-traumatized individuals tailored interventions, crucial to reduce their inequalities, for their healing, rehabilitation, and societal reintegration. 4) Contributing to a peaceful and non-violent society by decreasing their odds to reoffend and to face prison sentences in the future, decreasing therefore their criminal recidivism rates, and its associated clinical/societal costs. 5) Yielding breakthroughs on the importance of offering personalized, humanized, and compassionate services within Justice Systems.
